Client: Jungfrau
The Moon Chose Darkness | EP
10 Days til Midnight | EP

Jungfrau is an experimental music project

When designing the first EP, The Moon Chose Darkness, I opted to blend a form of packaging - most commonly used for children’s DVDs - with photographs taken whilst travelling Australia and Japan. The music of Jungfrau oscillates between extreme harsh noise to tranquil, almost meditative, drones. In order to expose the polar opposites of Jungfrau’s music, I used an image of tree sap (or bleeding tree) for the front cover and an image of a Japanese meditation garden on the CD itself. Both images, I feel, represent time, erosion and the terrible beauty of nature.

The music styling of Jungfrau has strong influences from Japan and so I continued the visual reference to this Asian empire when designing the second EP. The image used is an ink drawing I produced of a man dying from radiation poisoning following the Hiroshima bomb. In addition to this I utilised an African woodcut-style font to highlight the tribal nature of the music.
