Ali Barber | 150 page soft cover book

Richard Nicholson is a London-based photographer who has created work for the likes of Architects Journal, Elle, GQ, Harpers Bazaar, I-D, and Icon, just to name a few. I worked with him on the design of the book, ‘Ali Barber’ which was the photographic documentation of a barber shop in East London. It was part of the My East End series of exhibitions and was partially funded by Arts Council England.

For the design I created a very clean, minimal look that allowed the photographs space to breathe. The images are of predominantly Bengali teens. The hairstyles were quite geometric in nature. I wanted the geometry of the cuts to exist in harmony with the grid of the page.

I am also very interested in the creation of music and sound leading towards the experimental. I created an audio piece for this exhibit. You can listen to it here.
